My Journey to Satpada

Travelling is one of the few things which I really love and enjoy it to the fullest. But you cannot travel all the time, but you could only wish for it. So luckily I get a whole week to spend in leisure without any work load and I plan a weekend trip to Puri in Bhuvaneshwar, Orissa. Well first I thought of going by rail since it was the cheapest and a secure mode of transportation as people say, but then I heard one of my friends saying that he had been to Bangalore in Volvo bus and he had enjoyed the trip and it is pretty much light on your pocket too. So I too decide to go by bus and booked my tickets online.
Unique experience

There is nothing that can beat a sunset cruise. I leave Puri in the late afternoon and then head towards Satpada which is a small town by the Chilika Lake and is one of the biggest brackish water lagoons in the Asia as well as in the world. Satpada means a cluster of seven fishing hamlets and the whole 50 kms stretch journey takes a mere couple of hours as we reach there somewhere around post lunch. If you have a boat to yourselves then you could go cruising along the huge expanse of Chilika Lake, and look out for dolphins. If you are a fan of sea jewellery then stop by to see cultured pearls from oyster shells shown by some locals, but they try to con you into believing they got them through deep sea diving. You might almost fall for the con. You may also see some buckets of red crabs caught by the locals.

Ask your boatman to take you to Rajhans Island, where you could see the blue lagoon on one side and the entire Bay of Bengal on the other side. Plan a small drift in the lagoon and look out for some Irawaddy dolphins. You would be greeted by a couple diving into the water who are professionals in diving, showing you some of the dolphins and other fishes swim close by, and their fins above the surface of water. However the stretch of Chilika is not the best for migratory birds, but you do see some flocks of ducks. As you keep cruising, you’ll realize that the sunlight is fading away really fast and it’s hardly five in the evening. Well it is a good bye by the sun in satpada and you will be returning to your jetty. If you are planning a trip to Satpada then arrange a day trip from Puri by Volvo bus and for those who are keen on a sunrise cruise, you may stay in the town.

Travelling by Bus

I always used to wonder how it would be to travel for a long distance and for a large stretch of time, would it be the same level of tiredness as that of train or would it be way lesser than I imagine it to be. So I decide to travel by both bus and train in a same week. I plan a to trip by bus and go for online bus ticket booking services and the fro journey by train, as usual by irctc website.

There’s a romance in almost every journey you plan to do, be it by train or by bus. Many travellers I know are mostly passionate about either trains or buses but not both of them. However I love road trips, and enjoy more of them. But I’m more of a train traveller. Give me a choice between a bus and a train, I would definitely give the bus a miss and instead take the train. Because roads in India are bad and bumpy that is usually not my cup of tea. But these days, I’m slowly tilting towards bus journeys – the convenience you get, the ease of booking tickets on the go, and more over there is no tatkal quota in bus services.

There’s something secretive about a bus journey. I remember me going to the bus stand in Bangalore a couple of years ago and booking up the next available bus to Hyderabad on an instance. Or heading to Mumbai on a bus from Bangalore and deciding to go to Indore on the last minute by booking and picking up a bus from there. If you actually see the heart of India lies within its small towns and villages and if you want to discover the true India by its nooks and corners, then buses are your best solution.

I was surfing through some online busticket booking service websites, of which some are the leading bus booking services. So I was looking to buy a ticket to my brother. That was when I got all fascinated to know that there are more than 80,000 routes in India that they have mapped on Indian roads of which 3500 routes are from Bangalore. Now, that’s something you look out for. In this fascination I forgot to book my brother’s ticket and started playing and fooling around with the destinations that they offered. I was thinking to go to Coorg to get a breather from the heat in Bangalore. If you want to head somewhere for a quick weekend then buses are here for your rescue. Book instant tickets with ease to anywhere in India through the best online bus service providers.

My trip to Puri

Well what would you do if you get a week long holiday from your work place? I have first decided to go to my friends place but then I planned to make a trip to Puri, Bhuveshwar – Orissa. So I started searching for some of the online bus booking websites to book my ticket and plan a week-long trip to Puri. So here are some tips from my experience at Puri:
Stay
Puri is a place that is filled with many resorts as it is more of a beach destination than that of a holy town. Most of the hotels are located on the beach road. I planned to stay in the Sterling Golden Sands where one wakes up to the River Bharghavi as you can see it joining the sea. The beaches here are private and are very clean. These rooms are very large and more comfortable also giving you a choice of a single room, double room or a studio apartment.

Food
From Bengali cuisine to Italian pizzas and to Chinese, Puri serves all kinds of cuisine that tries to cater to every taste bud. There are many different cafes serving muesli and chocos to pastas to pizzas and cheese cakes. You get everything to you need to eat.
The Guide:
Orientation of Puri
Puri is a coastal town that is located in the Puri district approximately 60 kms from Bhuvaneshwar and approx. 500 kms from Kolkata.
How to get there
The closest airport is at Bhuvaneshwar which connects to most of the major cities in India. If you are flying from Bangalore then one could connect via Hyderabad or Visakhapatnam. Buses and Taxis would reach you to Puri from Bhuvaneshwar. Puri is well connected by trains from all metros and other major cities. Bus services connect Puri to Kolkata as well.
Getting around
Private taxis can take you around Puri, but anyways one can travel by buses to Satpada or to Konark. The cost depends on the type of car you choose and the number of kms/hours you use. Rickshaws are always available to take you around the town. However, most hotels would arrange for your transport.

Seasons
The best time to visit Puri is in the winters. As we know many destinations are best to visit during winters. Temperatures are between 10*C and 18*C but to be warned, the sun sets at 5pm and it turns pitch dark within an hour. Summers are always very hot, with the temperature touching 45*C during the months April – May. However, the monsoons are medium to heavy. But the town is prone to cyclones as well so choose the best online bus booking services during winter.

Plan How and Where to Stay when you’re on a Holiday

I have recently bought bus tickets to a hill station for my holiday trip. But the question was where to stay and how will I be possible to plan all of it. But then I thought with a cool mind and then came up with an idea and a plan for my perfect holiday stay. Follow this process before you choose.
Local Touch

Travelling, what I believe is about people and places. A magnificent host would share less secrets of a particular destination, and tell you stories that you don’t read in the guide books that show you around. They ensure that you must travel like a local and not a tourist if you truly want to know the place. You not just share their homes, but also an interesting perspective of lives.

Check the convenience of location
Huge amount of information is thrown at us when we book online and is very often difficult to make a right choice, even if the accommodation fits my budget. If you are traveling to a destination for the very first time, then plan your trip in such a way that you do not lose time to commuting. So the choice is often decided on the proximity of a local metro station or a subway. It’s not always easy to find a place in the city centre, unless if your commute time is within 30 minutes by train.
Do stay where the locals stay
There’s always a slight advantage of staying at a city centre or at the CBD where the crowd is always around you. But it’s an experience of staying in a suburb or at a residential layout where the locals of that destination stay. You are no longer a tourist to them since you join the locals in eating out and shopping. Also the neighbourhood always has a certain charm that you would not find at a city centre.

When booking accommodation via online, make sure to check with your host on the destination and the time to commute to the city centre from their local area.
Check various reviews and take only what is relevant to you.
Every place comes with different ratings and many tons of feedback and sometimes and also wading through the reviews could be very confusing. You can get a review about a many rooms being very small but it can come with an attached bathroom and another room attached, which is probably important to me. I am also very much interested into a property which has no frills and most often reviews that complain about lack of luxuries and don’t appeal me. Hence you to buy bus tickets today and plan a best possible holiday.

Puri – A Place to be spiritually and amicably

It was in the wee hours of the morning and the sun was still to come up in the sky, when I decide to go to Puri and start looking for some online bus bookingservices.  So I wake up gently, a was little surprised to see it was still dark, even though I was in Puri, Orissa where the mornings are usually early than expected. It’s too hazy to drive past the empty boulevard stretch along the beach. Every single inch of the road is lined with beach resorts and multi starred hotels facing the sea giving you the best possible time of your life. As you enter the temple main road, the rickshaw guys wake up due to the occasional car drives. Life slowly moves here as the sun rises up in the sky, its rays gazing up on the 200 feet tall tower of the great Puri Jagannath Temple, the shrine to many around to which the entire town revolves.

Puri is basically a holy city and is a part of one of the Char Dham itinerary where most of the pilgrims visit Dwaraka, Badrinath and Rameshwaram. As I enter the temple only to look at it dangling with devotees and their devotion. It looks like as if the entire city is here – including the tourists, the locals, the pandas, all struggling with each other to get the first sight of the lord. I move through the crowd and manage to find a small corner where I can have my own spiritual moment and a moment of silent communication with the triad deities. I was overwhelmed by the sight of these larger than life wooden deities of Jagannath, Balabhadra and Sulabhadra. I forget to move forward because I have the entire 400,000 sq. feet of space around the temple to explore.
Beach

If the identity of Puri is claimed by the temple, then in the Indian tourism it’s the emerging beach resort destinations of the east. A weekend getaway by many tourists from the neighbour states is thronged by the people. As I walk by the beach in the evening to find that it is completely crowded by the tourists. You may see the kites and balloons flying around, and the camel rides are very popular here. Saving the environment is one of their popular themes. Local festivals happen around as the Rath Yatra or during the New Year’s Eve and the annual beach festival that happens in Puri around November and December every year. You can see the sand arts of many artists and of the famous artist Padma Shri Sudarshan Patnaik who runs an institute here to promote his craft. So why wait book your tickets through the best bus booking services online and enjoy your trip to the fullest and keep exploring.
